The Cop and The Hooker - Reviews
Man Oh Man Reviews
3 Stars
Blurb: Ben is a cop 24/7—at his desk before anyone else in the morning and at his desk each evening after everyone else has gone home. His only release from work is the secret visits he makes to clubs where he can find willing companionship—male companionship. Ben has no desire for a relationship, until he meets Cody and can’t get the rent boy out of his mind. Cody knows the last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a cop, but when he has nowhere else to turn, Ben may just prove to be his salvation.
Reviewed by Ana: I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a nice way to spend an hour and it makes you feel good while reading it, but once you are done it is soon forgotten because it really doesn't bring anything new to an already told before story. The book about Ben (the cop) and Cody (the hooker) is reminicent of the movie "Pretty Woman", the two meet when Ben hires Cody for the night and it goes so well they continue to meet regularly. When Ben confesses to Cody that he loves him, Cody cuts ties with Ben as he feels unworthy of Ben's love. The rest of the story revolves around Ben and Cody working through their emotions and resolving things between them. While it ends favorably for all I just can't see how it could have a happily ever after ending beyond the here and now. Still, like I said it was a nice way to spend an hour.

Review: Ben is a hardworking, well respected cop that has a secret. To fulfill his sexual needs, he often visits a secreted, well-established club of prostitution. Even though Ben knows if his secret gets out, his career will be ruined, but he’s willing to take the risk to have a few hours of sexual gratification. Ben has essentially been lonely for years. Years ago, his wife passed away and left him more money he could spend in a lifetime. Since he works as a cop because he enjoys it, he opts to spend his money on only the sexual pleasure he can get from sexy rent boys.
When Ben meets the adorable rent boy, Cody, he immediately recognizes that there is something uniquely special about the younger man. Not only is he very attracted to him, he likes Cody’s impish and sexy personality and is quickly drawn to him. Ben’s confused by this, but as they continue to meet with each other, he starts to realize that he’s become quite attached to the younger man. But, just when things start to get hot and heavy between them, Cody pushes him away, telling him he doesn’t want regular customers anymore and basically breaks off all communication with him. Ben is angry at first, but comes to realize that he no matter how hard he tries he can’t get the rent boy off of his mind. So, he is surprised when Cody suddenly shows up and asks for his help. Will Ben be able to not only help Cody, but will he also somehow be able to convince the younger man to take a chance and build a relationship with him?
I liked the general premise of this book. I love a good rent boy storyline, so I was excited to read and review this one. Although, both characters are interesting people, I have to admit that Ben in particular was a hard sell for me. At times, he seems to be almost cold-hearted and uncaring, and he does a few things that are not likeable at times. But, I admit as the story progressed, I began to see another side of Ben, too. There is a lonely, vulnerable side to him that he shows Cody toward the end of the book, and this Ben is the one that I began to like. And, because of his feelings for Cody, I liked how Ben wanted to suddenly live life to the fullest and take chances. In my opinion, just when the book started to get really good, it ended.
Cody was also a character that just started to get interesting before the story ended. It’s obvious he’s unhappy from being a rent boy and lonely too. Toward the end, we get to find out what really motivated him to be a prostitute and this made me empathetic both with his past and problems. I do wish this book had been a full length novel. I would have loved to have seen a little more character development and it would have been great to watch Ben and Cody’s relationship evolve into something truly special. All in all I did like this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes the rent boy storyline.
